At least with soccer, you usually know when its going to end.
IIRC, the exception is the rare situation when a tie must
be broken for some reason. The clock does not stop during play.
In US football, while the playing time is fixed, the clock is
continually stopped and restarted for various reasons, on
an unpredictable basis. It's thus impossible to predict the
end time.
But the thing about American football is it's played so late at night,
there are no following programmes to worry about. I know this because
the Superbowl finished about three in the morning this year. :-)
