Typical. No wonder the economy is in the toilet, with corporate
management like that.
A former employer bought several used RP04 disk drives, and arranged
for maintenance that cost more per month than the drives cost. I
suggested foregoing the maintenance and just buying new drives when
the old ones broke. I was told there was a limited supply.
I'm surprised those things even worked, as they looked like such
wrecks. A couple of them were all rusted out on the bottom, as if
they'd been in shallow standing water for a year or two. They're
supposed to be balanced to a fraction of an inch by use of hardware
on the bottom, but that was impossible, so we had to put them up on
blocks, like a hillbilly's non-working car.
