I have a number of files of various types (e.g. .avi, .flv, .mkv,
.vlc, contents of video_ts, etc.) that I'd like to convert to watch on
an iPod. What is a good program to use for that (on Windows XP)? I
tried with the converter that comes with DownloadHelper for Firefox,
and it didn't work: the resulting files were very noisy (both bad
video and audio).
I got something called Plato that does that (I used Handbrake on the Mac
before that). It came from Giveaway of the Day, so I presume it costs
money -- maybe thirty dollars -- to get now. It has worked for .avi and
..flv and .mpg and .mov, if memory serves.
archive.org offers many of their videos in .mp4 format. They are usually
acceptable in the video, and contain loud popping noises in the audio
that make them pretty much useless.
