Hmmmm....you are correct. Although my last hormone level tests a few
years ago showed that my adrenal glands were producing enough estrogen
to mostly cancel out the effects of the testosterone. (And of course
in females the adrenal glands and ovaries produce small amounts of
testosterone.)
Which is why, once menopause has done its thing, we sometimes
grow a few whiskers. Our ovaries have shut down and our adrenals
are producing just enough testosterone to make the occasional
filament sprout. (I'm lucky in that regard; I have about three
blond hairs that sprout near-invisibly from colorless moles on my
jaw. My sister-in-law, on the other hand, has more face fuzz
than many twenty-year-old guys.)
