My family used to have a pet dog who took this attitude to extremes.
If you gave him a toffee, he'd carry it to the centre of the room, put
it on the floor, and then go behind the furniture and stalk it. When
he was sure it didn't suspect he was there, he'd pounce on it. On one
occasion, it stuck to the fur on the back of his neck, which really
confused him.
Now that I have a slidy floor, Giorgio has started playing with a
piece of heavy paper, crumpled up. I tried throwing things like this
for them before, but nobody cared. This time I threw it to distract
him, and he's been playing with it for days. Apparently being able to
slide the paper crumple around makes a difference.
