So far this month I've gone to a fannish Fourth-of-July picnic (photos
at http://razimir.smugmug.com/gallery/3114580#170475469) and a
weekend-long fannish party. On Friday I'll be going to PRSFS, then
on Sunday helping a fan move.

cute prize.

Just to be clear, that wasn't me. I'm in several of the pictures, but
not that one. :-)

At last night's PRSFS meeting there was discussion of the recent
Heinlein Centennial Con, which several members had attended. Someone
then reviewed _The Moon is a Harsh Mistress_. I then reviewed _The
Puppet Masters_, which I am partway through re-reading. I am reading
it now, not because of the centennial, but because it is *set* now.
It began on July 12, 2007.

I had never noticed before how close Heinlein set it to his
centennial. And much of it is set in his home town, Kansas City.
I wonder why he did that.

PRSFS meetings consist mostly of people giving oral book reports.
Nobody is in charge.

Sometimes I wish someone was in charge. Last night's meeting was
marred by someone giving an hour-long (!) review of some fantasy novel
about vampires and werewolves. Or perhaps it was a series. Anyhow,
by the end of it two people were asleep, three people were reading
books, or trying to, and several people had left early. But the
reviewer never did get the hint.

Curiously, nobody but me was at both the picnic and the party, or at
both the picnic and PRSFS. One person besides me was at both the
party and PRSFS.

Returning to the original topic of this thread, between noon Friday
and noon today, 24 hours later, there were nearly 300 unread messages
here. I killed the ones crossposted to rec.arts.sf.written. Only 14
were left.

Will others please join me in not crossposting, in killing all
crossposted messages, and in mentioning the fact that they are doing
so? Thanks. The newsgroup you save may be your own.
