it corruption for politicians to do things that get them votes?

I don't think it's corrupt to vote for something the voter thinks will
benefit him personally, and society in general, and make the world a
better place for everyone overall. Just mistaken, as likely as not.
But I do think it is corrupt to vote for something that will benefit
that voter, and screw everybody not like him. And many gradations
inbetween.

Don't you think that the economic distortions caused by having housing
costs, and the financing thereof over time, taxable to some people and
tax exempt to others, is detrimental overall? I could be wrong.

There is no doubt lots of corruption in politics, but democracy doesn't
require corruption in order to produce undesirable outcomes.

I agree with that as far as it goes, but is there any democracy that
does not become corrupt eventually? Bread and circuses.
