Well, whatever you do, don't play Copland's "Piano Variations."
Expand on that, please. I don't know that piece, but I hadn't
thought there was anything by Copland that would make a human
throw up, let alone a cat.

But it only convinces me more so that in various folks, 'something' is 'there' at a 'very' early age that, if discovered and duly nurtured, their talent can really be made to bloom and bloom very well. ... ... I have a masters in piano and have been playing professionally for over 40 years and I've never seen anyone past the age of 18 to start taking lessons and become proficient at it. ... I think it's a given that the well known pianistic names both then and now began the piano at an extremely early age and often showing their, shall we say, inclination for the instrument, even before the age of 6 or 7! ... I also believe and I welcome any views on this, public or via email, and so-termed 'child prodigies' decidedly inclusive, there is something 'there' that when tapped at an early age AND coupled with the 'desire' to play the instrument, then the chances of being very good at the piano can become a reality. ... I don't know what 'it' is save to say that something is there and this may explain those occasions where very well known pianists can trace their piano roots back to age 3 or 4! ...
