Who else is going?
Well, I did say the other day I'm flying to Los Angeles on Sunday.
Might as well attend the con whilst I'm there.
I hope to meet you there.
I'm sure we must have met, or at least seen each other, before. I
haven't missed a Worldcon since 1982.
In my case: 1968, 1972, 1974, 1978, 1982, 1984, 1988, 1990, 1991, 1992,
1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2003, and (barring the unforeseen) 2006.
(That large gap after the string of eight-in-a-row was due to burnout,
gafiation, and taking a lower-paying job for a charitable organization.)
You weren't the classical music fan from LA who I found myself standing
with in the loading bay at the Winnipeg convention centre in 1994, were
you? We were waiting for an ice delivery for a joint LA-Glasgow party.
Yes! I remember now. Mike Glyer picked me as point man for L.A.con III's
role in that party, and Martin Easterbrook tagged TR Smith on behalf of
Interaction. TR and her husband were Price Club members, so we did the
shopping for supplies together. By the time you ran into me, the only
supply I still required was the ice, in two 50 lb. bags. I was wondering
how best to get the ice to the party, when I realized that the money I had
left from what Mike had given me could be used to cover transportation, so
I hired a rickshaw for the purpose. I may or may not have remarked to you
that "travelling through a strange city with 100 lbs. of ice on my right
was almost like being with $EX-GIRLFRIEND again."
Many odd things happened to me at that con. At one point I saw a woman who
greatly resembled TR, but was not she; I was bold enough to approach her
and ask, and she turned out to be TR's aunt! (Must be on her father's
side; I found a photo of her mother, Katje Renner, on the Bucconeer site,
and I do not perceive as much resemblance there.)
