Maybe. The Shrine used to be famous for convention hijinks.
Until it was sold in 2004, OryCon was in the same hotel for many
years. The year of the infamous airwall incident (20__)*, the
companion hotel at the other end of the vast wasteland, er, parking
lot, was hosting mortgage brokers who did substantially more damage.
The new owners closed the hotel for renovations (which have yet to
begin, and may result in a Wal-Mart if the latest news pans out) and
informed OryCon that bids for the other hotel would not be considered.
As a result, the con moved downtown and landed a Marriott with fen on
staff.
Dan, ad nauseam
*The filkers tried to open an airwall that proved to have prior
damage. Until the prior damage was pointed out, the hotel threatened
to charge the con for repairs. John Bunnell wrote the appropriate
filk within 24 hours.
