Even a non-football-fan like me has noticed that the football world cup
is upon us. In England, it is common to show solidarity with the
England team by displaying a flag of St George, flying from your car or
draped from the eaves or windows of your house (flagpoles not being
common fittings on most houses in the UK).
More elaborate flags have superimposed on the cross of St George the
word ENGLAND in big letters, under which is the team emblem, a shield
containing three lions and the word ENGLAND again.
Such a flag appeared from the window of a house across the road from me
a couple of days ago. So far, they haven't noticed that they've put it
up back to front.
It probably looks right from the inside :-)
On a similar topic, I cam up with a solution to the world energy
crisis a couple of days ago.
Run a set of jump leads into Westminster Abbey, and clip them to the
remains of Henry V. The power generated as he spins in his grave at
the thought of all those french cars with St Georges flags on them
should solve our energy problems.
