At a panel at a con recently, they were talking about DRM etc. and I heard the rumour that TiVo is negotiating with some advertisers to make certain ads unskippable. Any truth to that?
It's easy enough to imagine, which probably means it'll happen.
It's easy enough to imagine someone killing a goose that lays golden eggs. That doesn't mean highly paid executives, with plenty of time to think about it, and plenty of advice from underlings and customers, are likely to be that stupid. I'm sure they realize that if commercial skip stopped working, over half their customers would promptly cancel their service and stop paying them their monthly fees. And that they'd get few if any new customers.
Does making some shows unkeepable kill the golden goose? They've already started down that road.
