Since correct spelling is defined by usage, it's not surprising that
the correct spelling of a word or name will always get more Google
hits than the incorrect spelling. (Assuming the incorrect spelling
isn't the correct spelling of something else -- there's no point in
comparing the Google hits for "principal" and "principle".)
I did several hundred Google searches from work today, since I had to
proofread a transcript of an international conference call in which
numerous names and organizitons were mentioned. It's a challenging
puzzle, a form of historical research. So what if the history I am
reconstructing took place just last week? (In some cases, earlier the
same day.) I just wish one could do Google searches on pronunciations.
