your demon story was pretty clearly not YA.

To take actual examples, most of Pat Wrede's work is or could be
marketed as YA.

However she and other authors have said things like "I couldn't have
written this before I became a mother" - Pat said this about _Caught in
Crystal_ and Lois Bujold about _Paladin of Souls_ and others - so that
points the way to books which have additional concerns beyond those
common in a YA readership.
