The only problem is people in this thread who think that I have a
problem that wants solving.

I've gotten myself into that "problem" myself over the year. Every
time you mention something, people assume you're soliciting advice,
suggestions, etc. And invariably, their advice, suggestions, etc won't
work.

I don't.  I'm just wrestling, that's all.  I thought I'd mention it in
passing because I thought the other participants of this group, being
writers, would appreciate that sometimes one has to wrestle with one's
plots and characters.  It was by way of sharing an anecdote, nothing
more.


The only times I've had to wrestle with characters was when I was
doing something wrong, because the problem was me, not the characters.
They were doing what they were designed to do. The solution was to
change them. Another solution was to let them continue in their own
way and therefore, change the story. I usually do the first, but I've
done the second at times, too.
