I was up for several hours last night, while the couple inches of snowI still haven't turned on the heat here in the Upper Midwest of the lower
we've built up over the last week melted and blew away. I think the winds
here at the house gusted to about 50-60 knots. They only gusted to 25 down
in the valley, but I'm on top of the ridge line that protects the valley.
48. (Of course, I was shivering and wearing clothes to bed a week ago.
It's gotten much better. Next cold wave I'll concede & turn the bloody
thing on.)
Well, here in Vallejo the temperature has dropped over the last
few days, leaving me with a sort of quandary in my bedroom. The
house has AC but it doesn't work in this room, and over the
summer and early fall it's been sweltering hot during the day.
And there are no screens on the windows, so we can't open them or
the cats would get out. So Hal built a sort of box frame with a
screen on the outer surface, that just fits into the window, and
we set a big square fan in it, to blow (relatively cooler) air
into the room all day.
Now it still gets hot for a few hours in the late afternoon, so
the screen and the fan have to stay; but at night and in the
morning it's cold. I've made a thick fleece curtain to hang
across the frame, but it's still 60F in here and I'm in bed wiuth
a heating pad on my feet, and the cats are asleep on the foot of
the bed with heating pads under them. Meanwhile outside the
other window I can see the trees whipping back and forth in quite
a respectable gale.
