In certain olden times, more vitamins & minerals were available than are
generally eaten now. Strongly flavored greens are now out of favor, but
they are (often) high in vitamins and minerals. Today young dandelions and
the like are poisoned rather than eaten.

But those are available for only a small part of the year.
