@yahMUNGEoo.com.bogus says...

The best word for an unarmed man facing a predator is "prey."

Well... depends on the size of your predator (we're a lot bigger than
weasels, foxes, coyotes, fossas, wildcats, etc..). Also, on how many
rocks, branches, whatever are nearby. JW Campbell Jr. used to tell a
story about a pitcher he knew who was charged by a bear as he walked
down a railroad track, with lots of nice fist-sized chunks of rock in
the substrate. The bear never reached him. Man does not necessarily
STAY unarmed for long.

Size is not necessarily a factor, though. If an unarmed human doesn't
have the skill set to know what to do when facing a predator (and
yields to the prey-type flight instinct), then they're prey.

Unarmed (or even armed, in some cases) human versus griz?

Odds are higher for the Griz.

But weasels, foxes, coyotes, fossas and wildcats are not grizzly
bears. These animals range from "an adult human would have nothing to
fear from" to "an adult human would have very little to fear from."

A friend of my niece in San Diego didn't even have a stick with her
when three coyotes menaced her while she was walking her Golden
Retrieve puppy. She kicked one of the coyotes hard enough that all
three ran off. The vet bill for the puppy turned out to be minor. Now
she carries a big stick on their walks. That was years ago, so the dog
is bigger and they probably have less to fear.
