Part of the problem is "Why can't you be more like your older sibling?"

I've ever had. Some parts weren't as easy and fun as the rest but only

rest. This one is about as sweet as a lemon.

Are you writing it because, having produced one book you liked, you felt
like continuing it, or because this one had things--plot, characters, or
whatever--that you thought it would be fun and interesting to explore?

Because, despite a year of telling it that its mere existence would do a
major disservice to the first book, it nagged until I noticed a way in
which it wouldn't. And then I could no longer say no.

[Random thought I've been developing: The original book was about truth
and Truth and lies and unknowability; I've been thinking of this as
about creating the future via promises and such, but I think actually,
to be in the proper "Up yours to 'facts' and 'logic'" spirit of the
original, it ought to be about creating the future via the triumph of
free will over bonds psychological, physical and metaphysical.

Must research 16th century Catholic and Lutheran doctrine(s) on
predestination sometime when it won't make my head go 'splodey.]
