When I lived in Washington, one of the girls in my high school class spent the night with her boyfriend. Her father filed rape charges against the eighteen year old boyfriend, but since Carol was sixteen had to get her permission to complete the deal. Her dad actually used an interrogation chamber to try to browbeat the girl, to no avail. They had about a fourteen month difference in age, and if her father had been able to coerce her into signing that form, her boyfriend could well have been in jail ten years later.

I'm not entirely convinced that statutory rape laws are based on anything but prejudice. I'm also fairly certain that, barring some great societal threat, the age of consent/adulthood will continue to grow older. next stop 21 in the US, but given time, probably older still.
