Note that in Minnesota, the age of consent is sixteen; which is also
the age of consent in several other states, and in the UK. There are
states which have lower ages of consent -- but I gather that there are
other laws which make it risky for an adult to have sex with someone
who is, for example, 14.
I'm not entirely convinced that statutory rape laws are based on anything but prejudice. I'm also fairly certain that, barring some great societal threat, the age of consent/adulthood will continue to grow older. next stop 21 in the US, but given time, probably older still.
