I've been playing with a short over at Baen. The protag
thinks of the female lead as "babelicious." One of the
regulars just cannot read that story without hitting
that word like a wall. I'm uncertain whether to do
anything, since the term does such a good job of summing
up a host of societal things.

It's an ugly word that I find every bit as silly as
'hottie', but yes, it can be informative in that way. If
it's well in character here, it also suggests I'm unlikely
to care much for or about the protagonist.

My protag is more intimidated by the female lead's competence than her looks, but the fact that we try to fence off that term makes it almost obligatory for the next generation to use it. ...
