Ha!
I just tipped 40k in my NaNo wordcount. If only I hadn't had those five
days tied up in conference last week, I'd be almost there by now, but
as it is, I may just make my 50k in time.
One week to go and 10k words to write.

Whoo-hoo... responding to my own post...
I've done it.
50,121 words by 11.30 Sunday evening. With the conference taking five
days out of November I've worked out that I've done 50k words in 20
days, thus proving once and for all tat I am a burst writer.
Mega congrats!
Because I wasn't sticking strictly to NaNo rules in that I was adding
50k words to 28k already in the bag I now have 78,468 and estimate
another chapter or possibly two depending on whether the last
confrontation is a single battle or a double one. I probably won't know
until I write it.
This is the third year of my NaNo novel (also not sticking strictly to
the rules) and it's now around 154,000 words in total (so far). Most of
the plot threads are converging towards a resolution, but one very major
character is still completely unresolved. A quick, summary-style ending
of his story would seem like a cheat.
I'm going to have to continue into December, but I've decided I'm not
going to wait another year[*]. If I end up at 200K, that's ok, because
the Nano quality of the writing will mean that maybe half will be cut.
100K would be a good size. (I'm slightly worried that it's not as bad as
I think - so it may be harder to cut stuff than I've planned. But I'll
deal with that.)
Trouble is, after cutting and streamlining, I'll still need to add words
back in the form of all the description that I've omitted. It could grow
back up quite a lot.
But I'll worry about that later.
Jonathan
[*] Next year's nano novel will be a completely new one.
