I'm offline, so must suggest a goggle for the National Maritime
Museum plus words like "sloop", "ketch" and "yacht", especially
the Dutch ancestors of the latter.
For'ard would be a good place for the galley in a sail boat: so
long as the vessel isn't becalmed or in harbour, the wind would
blow smells (and flames, in the even of fire) into open water.
