Yes, I'm allergic to the little buggers, too (wasps, not chihuahuas,
although I can think of other species of dogs that I'd prefer to have
to look at...) I remember once, in school, sometime in late spring or
early summer, I was sitting next to an open window writing something
in my notebook and I felt something land on my head, and - I don't
know what I was thinking, that it was a leaf fluttering in through the
window, whatever, but I lifted my left hand to brush it off of me...
and got stung on a fingertip.
Within five minutes or I looked like Popeye the Sailor man, with my
entire arm from fingertips to elbow ballooning to three times its
size. I got sent packing for medical attention, pronto, and everything
ended well, but ever since that day I'm PARALYZED when I see something
black-and-yellow and sting-equipped anywhere near me. I'm not
anaphylactic and I don't carry an epi pen or anything like that - but
I'm terrified of the criters because I have no clue what I'd do if I
got stung somewhere without immediate access to a medical
intervention...
A.
Around here the black-and-yellow ones ("yellow jackets") are reasonably
decent armed citizens :-) It's the red ones, actually brick-red with
almost-black abdomens, that you have to watch out for. We also have an
extensive selection of mud daubers. I believe they're capable of
stinging, but I don't know anyone who's had the experience.
Regards,
Ric
