This is an opinion I don't share. I don't want to be startled by a
spider or anything, and I don't want them in my clothes or myu

corner by the ceiling -- I like them a lot.

Agreed. I apparently let two black widows on my porch get pretty big
before my husband pointed out what they were.

I was still in favor of leaving them be ... but was convinced
otherwise. I'm still not sure it was the right decision.

Canberra, Australia, Redback spider, toilet seat. Fortunately a friend
pointed it out before I had to use the privy.

I'm lenient with spiders in my house -- I only kill them when their
webs become a nuisance. But then, neither recluses nor widows live in
my area. I would probably be more ruthless if I found a dangerous breed
of spider.

I have wasps with nests in the siding on my porch again. We don't
bother each other.

I am less gracious with wasps. They build nests in various places on
my house, and every spring I have to spend a couple weeks patrolling with
bug spray and a machete to remove the nests.

The new neighbors have a small girl, and a couple months ago I surprised
her when I turned the corner of my house with my wasp patrol gear. "Oh,"
I said, waving the three-foot machete in the air, "I'm just hunting wasps."

Her eyes went wide. I haven't had the heart to tell her yet that the
wasps in the area are not dog-sized. :)
