Or at least some Amazon.co.uk Marketplace Associate knows things not
known to anyone else in the universe.

The Count of Monte Cristo (Scholastic Classics) by Alexandre Dumas and
Patricia C. Wrede (Mass Market Paperback - Jan 2005)

OK, that one almost makes sense -- I did a 1,000-word introduction for them
for that reissue.

Did you tell them that it was partly inspired by Casanova's memoirs?

No -- I wasn't analyzing the book, I was enthusing about it. I mean, it
really does have everything -- revenge, murder, plots and counter-plots,
*two* damsels being forced into distasteful marriages, swordfights,
smugglers.... I don't even remember the whole list; it ended up being nearly
a paragraph long. And I talked a bit about the author, because that was one
of the things the editor specifically asked that I include. But the whole
idea was sort of to do an extended back-blurb -- something that would, they
hoped, get today's kids interested in the book. Somehow I didn't think
talking about Casanova's memoirs would quite do the trick.

Today's kids would probably want to know whetner Casanova went to
Hogwarts, and lose all interest when they found out he was a Muggle...
