My objection is that I've never heard it before, so I question whether
it is common enough for inclusion. It sounds more like something that
its originator thought hilariously clever and tried to get into common
usage.
"AOL == me too" has definitely been around for yonks. According
to my archives, I used it on 7 May 2001 so must have regarded it
as current then. That was in rec.arts.sf.fandom. Later used it
w/o probs in misc.writing (Mar02) and comp.os.os2.misc (Mar03).
You lead a cloistered and cleanly life. :-)
I first heard / read it shortly after AOL allowed its users out into
the world of the real 'Net (as opposed to their carefully moderated
groups that were some sort of imitation of the 'Net). And it was
immediately recognizable and understandable to those of us who'd
almost immediately become irritated with the newbbies who whined about
how we weren't doing it right, like AOL and who would quote up to two
full screens or more and add, "me, too." or "I agree."
A lot of them whined their way back to their comfy, cozy, limited AOL
groups and most of the rest adapted in a year or two. Unfortunately
enough of the non adapted lingered long enough to keep the legend
alive. Google Groups seems to be proudly keeping the tradition alive,
but it's not as obvious, as their method encourages top posting with
the screens of quotes beneath.
