Sounds like if the characters are hiding something from you, they
may just want to surprise you. Take it in the spirit in which it
was given, maybe?

I don't mind when they surprise me. I'm constantly amazed at how things
turn out to just fit without prior planning. I'm so used to that that I
rely on it happening (rightly).

The problem is that I'm _stuck_. I don't know what the next line to
write down is.

There's a brief conversation, then the character's thoughts go rambling.
(Perhaps even evading what happens next, how should I know?) And then it
ends. Stops dead.

So, with knowing his folks are deceivers, I got to wonder what he might
be hiding from me, and how to get it out.
