Time on Fantasy worlds

One thing that keeps bugging me is the use of hours and minutes on made
up worlds. The folks there have no reason to invent the exact same
system, whether their day has also 24 hours, or 37.
Any ideas what words or systems to use instead, that aren't completely
smeerpy?
