Actually, I usually do care where a reviewer gets a book as the source

upfront about getting a review copy vs buying the book lets me know
there might be bias or that the reviewer is aware of it.

I considered that, but legitimate reviewers probably aren't going to be
swayed by getting a review copy, and bad reviewers might have other reasons
for bias.

A brief mention would be fine, though, just not a whole paragraph.

I didn't read the review, so I don't know how much space he gave it.
But while a legit reviewer might not be swayed, it was from pro
reviewers in the print media who gave me the idea that it could be.
Usually, the journal made it clear upfront that arcs or review copies
were acquired for review purposes and the reviewer didn't need to
mention it. But it was reviewers who made me aware that choosing a book
for myself and having one handed to me could make a difference.

I just read, and reviewed on my blog, a book I got for free at NY
Comicon, nicely autographed by the author (Charlie Huston's Caught
Stealing) and sure enough, I found myself thinking, while I was
reading, about how personable he was and how much I wanted to like his
book. I did like it, but ultimately, it wasn't close to being a fav and
I actually felt disappointed in it and felt bad about my
disappointment. Writing the review was tough for me because I kept
putting in and taking out flattering statements that didn't accurately
reflect my feelings about the book. If I hadn't been made aware of the
possibility of bias, I might not have removed those comments. I wrote a
favorable review and I think it's accurate re: my feelings, but I can't
really say it's completely what I felt.
