There's magic, but seen as
wicked, along with anyone who's seen using it (the effects) getting
locked up and killed in some ghastly way. (If not rescued. Some people
secretly use magic. It doesn't involve ingredients, spells, gestures, or
other traditional handling; all it needs is a conscious thought.)


Then the panther could do it. What does he panther want to accomplish? What
is its nefarious plan for which it is manipulating all these people? Is it
going to make league with a particular witch or wizard, when such is
encountered? Or is it going to eat the witch/wizard who has hidden in a
smaller animal form?

Will they encounter a culture which will view them as the panther's
entourage and judge them by their relation to it? Or an enemy who will
transform them into fleas, in which case the panther becomes a place to
hide?
