Also for me a mindmap is important for process rather than
output. While the final map has lots of useful clues on it,
it's the /constructing/ of the map that's useful, and even
a map with squished-in things and long arrows and SEE ELSEWHERE
bits is doing its job.
I've tried mindmapping and it doesn't seem to work for me; putting my
thinking process down on paper makes it less clear (because it has to be
explicit) rather than clearer. Also, the moment it's enough like what's
in my head to be any use, it immediately triggers already-written
syndrome as an outline would.
Any of you who do mindmap, can you also outline?
I've done the characters and plotting, and the mind-map helped me
establish the relationships between facts that helped me then solve
the plot problems I had. I get lots of plot problems because I tend
to work from a specific scene or idea that I want and have to invent
credible plots to arrive at them. It's a big headache, but I like the
end results.
