I think part of the problem is that the terms you've been suggesting are
also used as terms of value judgment. If you suggested looking at the root
causes of emotional reactions, I doubt you would meet with resistance. And

Well, that's whay I asked if it made it any better to make it clear
that 'correctness' is not what's under discussion (to which I have yet
to see an answer; if someone has given one, I've missed it). I don't
know what else to do than to say "yes, I know those words are often
used that way, but they're the best available, so please don't take it
that way."
If *you* know of a word that carries the correct meanings of
'justfiable' and/or 'rational' without the connotations that are
causing objection, I would very much like to know it. Perhaps such a
word needs to be invented.
