How does one go about getting that job? :)
Pick a company you might like to write for, and check out their
web site or write to them for guidelines. Be aware that this sort
of work generally pays quite poorly, and some companies are erratic
about paying at all. Also, I believe they will generally want all
rights to your work. It is probably a bad idea to write a module
and then expand it into a novel which you plan to publish elsewhere;
at the very least, if you plan to do this read your contract for
the module *very* carefully.
Not really looking seriously - but it might be something fun to do at some point. I'm pretty happy with the job I have, and my bookstore.
FWIW - I just got some "Greyhawk" books in this weekend: I was amused at the titles: "The Keep on the Borderlands" and "Temple of Elemental Evil" - I remember when those modules (B2 and B3, IIRC) were originally published.
I looked into writing a module for FASA at one point, but my idea
turned out to be much too close to the two modules about insect
spirits that were already in the pipeline, so I didn't do it. The
guidelines were interesting reading, though. They had a very
strict format for their modules, almost a fill-in-the-blanks.
Too bad the indie RPG publishers dried up - anyone remember Judges Guild? I don't suppose anyone has ever been able to fill in that vacancy?
