Fantasy pets anyone?

I need a new, fresh, original idea for a slightly annoying sidekick.
Who is going to follow my young hero. I dont want a human it needs to
be similar to say dobby the house elf (harry potter) or mabey Golem
(lord of the rings, sorry to patrinise anyone) but not as evil and
sinister. Hes a good-guy people! Also any names to accompany ideas
would be helpful, thanks.
