There are a couple of points on an adult's body that would be
momentarily debilitating - anywhere in the face, the jugular, the
crotch.

A ten year old is unlikely to win in a sustained fight, but he can get
in a lucky blow, and such a lucky blow is possible when the adult thinks
they're appending a helpless child.

Kneecap. A short straight on blow with the end of the staff, followed
by swinging the staff into whatever part of him she could hit could be
crippling.
