Who said you had to write like anyone else?

Do you think we are trying to trap you into following some cultish

This is a really bizarre response to my post.

Actually it is not a bizarre post, you brought up the point I had hoped
you would. I laid the bait and you responded accordingly. On one hand
I am told to write like everyone else, to write SF, not sci-fi. That I
should know this, that it is offensive, yet then you say, "Do you know
what the rest of us write? Who said you had to write like anyone else?
See my point now? I wrote a simple abbreviation sci-fi, which to me,
is not offensive or derogatory by any means. Yet I have been told
countless times to conform to writing sf instead. Because sf is the
"accepted way to write here."
So yes, I have been told to write like everyone else. I have been
warned that editors will denounce my work, that I will be mis-quoted
and not recommended to others. All because I did not write sf like the
masses "in the know."
Thanks for the fun. It's been a pleasure seeing how everyone here
thinks and reacts to the simplest of words or abbreviations. It has
made my day reading some of the responses. I am forever amazed how
serious some people take stuff like that. To me, today, tomorrow and
more than likely the rest of my life, I will not be so overly concerned
of how someone refers to a genre of writing. To those that are deeply
offended by the term sci-fi, perhaps a little counseling. It's an
abbreviation for crying out loud, not a personal attack.
I spent the better part of the past ten years avoiding discussion
groups for this very reason, either you follow the mule train or you
are flamed and ridiculed, some things never change.
I would be interested in more topics, so if anyone has something of
vital importance to discuss. . .
