Boy you guys are tough on spammers. Just a little shameless self
promotion. At any rate, I would be more tan happy to talk about
speculative fiction writing, science fiction or fantasy or any other
genre fiction. My philosophy on publishing through Lulu was this: I
wanted to get my novel out there and prove that I can promote my own
work. Publishers tend to pick up on you if you've been able to tell
them that you've sold XX amount of copies yourself. I've been promoting
the heck out of it and gotten some good bites by local independant
bookstores, podcast promos and local radio. I am trying to cultivate
the marketing writer in me. It's been working so far. As for Lulu over
other POD publishers, I did some research and these guys seem to be the
most author friendly. Other POD publishers were expensive or out to rip
off the writer. These guys charged nothing to get the book uploaded and
set. I paid a minimal fee to get the ISBN number and have it listed on
Amazon.com. Tee Morris, a writer I heard about on a few podcasts went
this route and along with his podiobook (another post!) he was able to
convince a publisher that he had the following garnered on his own to
publish his book. If you're an author you will need to go out there and
promote your stuff. Get it edited first at least by a writer
knowledgeable friend or the most a professional paid editor. I thought
that hey, if musicians and actors can go out there and do the ameture
thing and get signed why not writers. If you've been hesitating to get
your stuff out there yourself for your own enjoyment or to kick start
your career lulu.com is the way to go. Sorry I didn't read the FAQ
first.
