I learned early on when starting to use a desktop (compared to a
laptop, which I could close up) that I had to minimize everything and
make sure no icons were highlighted on the desktop when I left the
desk. Otherwise, the cats would open programs galore. Once they
signed me on to AOL.
My desk is designed with a keyboard tray cut lower into the front left
of the desk (also its own power strip, etc, it's designed for
computers) so there's nowhere to shove it under.
I wish I had a drawer... but, alas, this is my work space:

I don't have the Windows laptop anymore, but the big screen for the Linux server and my little white mac laptop are currently residing here. The "kitchen" is just to the left. I live on a sailboat.
