I've been similar accosted by people I've never seen before in my
life, who manage to convince me I *have* seen them before -- like we
shared an office for six months (no, not quite that bad! <g> -- but it
can still be embarrassing).
Hmmm.

Similar things happen to me all the time, except that I usually get
third-party confirmation that yes, I really have met this person before.
Especially with relatives and my parents' friends.

For example, just last summer I discovered that people I thought were my
first cousins were actually my second cousins, their parents who i thought
were my aunt and uncle are actually my first cousins, and I have an extra
much older uncle that I had completely forgotten about, if I ever knew him
to begin with.

There seem to be far more people in the world who recognize me than there
are people I recognize.
