There are LiveJournal communities for several newsgroups.
Would one for this newsgroup be worthwhile?
For me it would be redundant.
Or worse, if it became a sort of second rasfc and ended up
splitting the conversations or the community.
Usenet for discussing things. I see it's function as rather different.
Neither better nor worse, just different.
So, since nobody has yet answered Christopher Wright's question: what
is it for? (Unless Catja's comment was a (partial?) answer.)
Or, phrased more egocentrically, what's in it for me? (Should I
join, and why? Bearing in mind that I have no interest in
LiveJournal at present and do not need another time sink.)
ISTM that some of the interesting people who used to post to rasfc
have already gone to other places - which would be more regrettable
if the volume here were not so high.
OTOH, if this group diminished to a low-volume group concentrating
solely on writing advice, that might be a good thing. But I don't
know where else it would be possible to ask such a range of questions,
and get such a broad swathe of knowledgeable answers: anything from
the Sanskrit for "three" to the weight of silver coins in Ancient
Rome. (Hmmm. No one's asked that yet, have they? <g> ) Yeah, nowadays
you can find out a lot by googling, but it's not the same.

p.s. And, Catja, I'm not sure that IWriSloMo counts as
a "community" -- useful though it may be to the two or three people
who post to it (not always the same two or three people).
