I do that, too. I was speaking a definite British accent when I was in
England - not perfectly British as I'm not, as it were, but definitely
the more clipped ENglish variety as she is spoke in the Scept'rd
Isles. On the other hand, people tell me that I now speak with a
definite American over-accent, after living here for more than five
years now - so gawd alone knows WHAT I sound like to someone I meet
for the first time and who gets to hear me "blind" as it were, not
knowing my polyglottal background...
