Oh, the version of Bubble and Squeak I know is made with any green vegetable leftovers (often mushy peas) along with the potatoes but it is fried. I hate it with a vengeance. I always have to cook it on Boxing Day along with the Christmas cold cooked meats: turkey, pork and ham. My mother and my husband love it otherwise it would never darken my frying pan.( It makes a hell of a mess actually. I am reluctant to use as much fat as it really needs - they are both supposed to be watching their cholesterol. Luckily she/he who cooks does not wash up: it's the law.)

I think Bubble & Squeak is supposed to be potato and cabbage fried up in patties or cakes, I actually like it - on those rare occasions when I have spare mash and cabbage, (but that's not often as: a) my SO is not fond of cabbage and b) I rarely mash potatoes).
