I see it rather differently: I don't think that third person
is a single continuum. It can be filtered in a number of
different ways. One scale has to do with how tightly it's
tied to the consciousness of a participating character.
'First person with pronouns changed' is at one extreme on
this scale. Looser versions are still filtered through the
consciousness of a participating character, but the
filtering is looser; the voice, for instance, might be quite
different from that of the filtering character. Multiple
tight third is to that as serial monogamy is to strict
monogamy. Camera eye (as I use the term) isn't on this
scale at all, because the camera sees everything,
irrespective of where the characters are looking.

Omniscient is formally third person, but the filtering that
takes place isn't through the minds of participating
characters. I see camera eye as an very strongly filtered
-- 'limited' might be better -- form of omni: it filters out
everything that isn't perceptible to the usual senses.
