Thanks for the advice re: Rick's "Chinese Characters"! Finally, a
Chinese dictionary where I don't need the magnifying glass. Beautiful
print and layout.

In a small disagreement with my calligraphy laoshi -- he wants me to
learn the old characters rather than the new Hong1 Dynasty ones. I
suggested it was better to learn to use the ones employed by
1,400,000,000 people. His view was the new ones are ugly, learning the
new and old characters lets me read both, as well as books prior to the
new dynasty. Agreed.
