I'm reading "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" by Mary
Ann Shaffer. This book is an absolute delight. I know someone here must
have mentioned it because when I saw it sitting on top of the library
trolley I grabbed it fast. I now own quite a few copies and any of my
friends Tassie who can read can expect to receive it amongst their
Christmas goodies this year.
Juliet is a struggling author living in London after WW2. She strikes up
a correspondence with someone from Guernsey and that's where it starts.
The whole book is written in the form of letters and the characters'
personalities just leap off the page. Although the story is based around
tragic events in Guernsey during the war, there is such humour and
spirit. I love, it, love it, love it!
I think you're right, someone here did mention it - I bought it and read
it too, and enjoyed it a lot.

It might have been me or Willow... I've read The Guernsey L&PPP Society
and - thought it just wonderful! The characters are ones you'll not forget.
Recently saw that a 2013 film adaptation is "in development".. But the most
recent article (Oct 2011) seems to imply that Ken Branagh has chosen to
direct something else (Henning Mankell book) .. so who knows? Kate Winslet
may be cast...
I certainly hope they will film it on Guernsey... but there's a chance they
won't. Saw another article mentioning the South England, another the Isle of
Man... It's all about costs..

Read this book, you won't regret it -- and it makes a great gift too!!.
