Brian posts the article backwards. Why? Because what he wants you to read are the words of one person, Dick Martiny, who wrote to the author of the article. Who Martiny is or whether he has any knowledge is never stated. This is what Martiny is quoted for.

So why has Brian chosen to post about Alger Hiss at all? And why has he reorganized the article so that that paragraph comes near the top of the article? Brian has chosen this indirect way of saying that liberals are traitors.
Of course, Brian, I am sure, has never harbored any doubts that Hiss was guilty. But the only evidence against him was the improbable story of Whittaker Chambers, an admitted perjurer, and weak corroborating evidence from a woman trying not to be deported. The first jury could reach no verdict. The second jury was allowed to convict on an 8 - 4 vote, which was rather unusual to say the least.
In any case, Brian is not concerned with Hiss's guilt. He sees us as guilty. That is his case.
