I wonder how much it has to do with the guy who was going to run against
him as
a repub. There was so much hate going around because of Specter's votes
on
the
stimulus package etc.
Without the sore loser method of getting on the ballot (a la Lieberman),
this
may be his way of surviving the primary and moving on to the general.

What do you want to bet that Coleman and the Republican Party will now be
trying even more to change the results. I think it will now go to the U.S.
Supreme Court and who knows what will happen there.

If it goes to the Supreme Court and is decided a la Bush, then Obama
will overturn the decision claiming it violates the people's right to
be heard via the ballot box. Thus Franken will prevail.

If the Supreme Court can overrule the vote, that would be contrary to
the rule of law that is the ballot box. If they can do that then the
President would then be able to overturn that ruling on the basis of
the law of the land. there is a check on the Supreme Court just as for
the other two branches of government.
