Back then, it was a major purchase and expected to last as long as the
owner. Appliances were like that. Cars were expected to last three
years, then you were supposed to trade them in. Now, appliances have a
very short life-expectancy, but cars go on and on and on.
My last car lasted 13 years. . . I don't believe in all this
new-car-all-the-time nonsense. I run mine into the ground 8-)
