Burial will recycle the remains but much more slowly than burning. Many
caskets are steel or other metal which will keep out life for a long time
and most folks are buried well below the level where there is abundant

life. A metal coffin will take centuries or millennia to decompose but
eventually the remains will reenter the chain of being. As for
benefitting
cremators, burial benefits the funeral industry more than cremation as
costs
are relatively low for cremation. I plan on having my ashes scattered on

More reasons to confirm my decision to be cremated.
Is it possible to simply wander away to a human graveyard, lie down
and die, like elephants supposedly do?

Yes, it is possible. However when you start to aromatize the vicinity,
loved ones of the nearby underground deceased will complaiin and your
remains will be removed. If one has the courage to walk into the wild
and leave it to nature to take you, the pain will be excruciating if
you are still alive (depending on time of year hypo- or hyperthermia)
when confronted by a predator. Little ones: fire ants, snakes, wolf
packs, coyotes, foxes, will take longer. Much less expensive than
Hospice, burial, cremation, all of the above, et al.

Less expensive to you personally though society will have to bear costs.
Normally when you are missed someone will call up a search. Look at what
happened to that guy who took off in his plane and crashed somewhere. It
took over a year for them to find him. There were massive costs associated
with the search. Take care
